Mixolydian Scale

The mixolydian scale is the mode built off the fifth note of the major scale. It differs froma major scale because it has a lowered 7th note. The characteristic note is the 4th note of the scale and should be avoided that same a major scale. This is the scale often used in rock, funk, and blues music because that flat 7 sounds so hip and nice. This is also the most basic scale to play over dominant V7 chords. However, in jazz this is the most boring choice usually so check out dominant V7 Chords to see more interesting ways to play over them.
